Homeobox Genes
Homeobox genes determine how embryonic cells develop. While they differ across species, there is a homeodomain (~60 amino-acid long region) that is highly conserved.
TODO: Include the “biological circuits” from Introduction To Systems Biology related to embryonic growth. There is a really interesting description of the formation process, of how exactly the genes can turn on/off to enable embriotic growth of the correct cell (e.g. leg, wing, antennae, eye).
